SENEGAL: François Hollande s’engage à aider les tirailleurs sénégalais à devenir français
A l’occasion de la visite du président sénégalais Macky Sall en France
François Hollande s’est engagé mardi 20 décembre à faciliter l’octroi de la nationalité française aux tirailleurs sénégalais, ces soldats d’Afrique subsaharienne qui ont combattu dans les rangs de l’armée française.
Aujourd’hui, ces anciens combattants que l’on surnomme par ce terme générique de tirailleurs sénégalais vont pouvoir devenir français. « C’est une énorme reconnaissance et c’est surtout l’aboutissement d’un long combat », souligne Aissata Seck élue socialiste de Bondy, en banlieue parisienne. Cette petite-fille de tirailleur sénégalais se bat depuis des années aux côtés de ces hommes pour qu’ils obtiennent réparation.
Depuis des années, les tirailleurs sénégalais sont confrontés aux tracasseries de l’administration. Ils doivent par exemple fournir les documents d’état-civil de leurs parents ou de leurs grands-parents, alors qu’il sont nés dans des villages où les registres de naissance n’existaient pas. Ils sont également obligés d’être présents sur le sol français tous les six mois pour percevoir leur retraite.
Le chef de l’Etat français s’engage à faciliter les démarches administratives pour leur permettre d’accéder à la nationalité française. Une annonce tardive, car ces vieux combattants ont plus de 70 ans et sont peu nombreux aujourd’hui. Moins d’un millier de tirailleurs vivent encore en France.
