Soudan: l’opposant historique Sadek al-Mahdi de retour après trois ans d’exil
Après près de trois ans d’exil volontaire au Caire, Sadek al-Mahdi est de retour à Khartoum.
L’ancien Premier ministre soudanais et chef du parti de l’opposition avait quitté le Soudan en 2014 après une courte période de prison. Il a refusé ensuite l’appel au dialogue national lancé par le président Omar el-Béchir. Son parti Oumma lui a préparé un grand accueil à l’aéroport et les attentes sont grandes vis-à-vis de ce retour.
Des portraits de Sadek al-Mahdi, opposant historique et chef du plus grand parti de l’opposition au Soudan, ont envahi la capitale du pays quelques heures avant son arrivée.
Jeudi 26 janvier, à l’aéroport de Khartoum, l’accueil était à la fois populaire et politique. Et pour cause : les responsables de l’opposition étaient nombreux. Selon Mariam al-Mahdi, la fille de l’ancien Premier ministre, certains ont été empêchés d’atteindre l’aéroport.
Par ailleurs, un chef politique du parti d’opposition Mou’Tamar qui était sur place affirme que les journalistes ont été mal traités par la police et empêcher de couvrir l’évènement.
Accusé d’avoir trahi la patrie
Durant son exil, al-Mahdi intègre l’alliance d’opposition « l’appel du Soudan » qui regroupe les rebelles de Darfour à l’ouest du pays et ceux du Kordofan au Sud.
En mai 2014, il choisit l’exil. Accusé de trahir la patrie, il risquait la peine de mort pour avoir dénoncé les exactions contre les civils commises par les janjawids, une milice à la solde du pouvoir.
Pour beaucoup, son retour permettra de redynamiser l’opposition et de faire bouger la scène politique au Soudan.
