Yémen: le gouvernement à l’offensive près d’un détroit stratégique
L’armée yéménite est passée à l’offensive à Dhubab.
Les forces progouvernementales yéménites, soutenues par l’aviation et la marine de la coalition arabe sous commandement saoudien, ont déclenché samedi 7 janvier une opération, baptisée Lance d’or, dans la région de Dhubab, à 30 km du détroit stratégique de Bab al-Mandeb, situé entre la mer Rouge et le golfe d’Aden.
Selon des sources militaires, l’opération Lance d’or consiste à tenter de reprendre aux rebelles chiites houthis, soutenus par les partisans de l’ancien président yéménite Ali Abdallah Saleh, les zones longeant la mer Rouge sur 450 km. Pour cela, il faut reprendre les villes de Moka, Al Hudaydah et Midi, près de la frontière saoudienne. Selon un bilan donné dimanche, les combats ont fait en deux jours au moins 68 morts – 55 rebelles et 13 militaires loyalistes.
Le camp militaire d’Al Omari, au centre des combats, est situé dans une zone montagneuse surplombant la route côtière qui relie la région de Bab al-Mandeb à la région de Dhubab et ouvre la voie vers Al Hudaydah, la grande ville portuaire sur la mer Rouge, aux mains des rebelles.
Les troupes progouvernementales avaient pris en octobre 2015 le contrôle de Bab al-Mandeb, avant que les rebelles ne s’emparent en février 2016 de zones proches de ce passage maritime, dont Dhubab. Le détroit de Bab al-Mandeb est le quatrième passage maritime le plus important au niveau mondial en termes d’approvisionnement énergétique.
